In 1840 the Great Western Railway arrived in Swindon, transforming the small market town into a national rail centre. Using its central access to London, South Wales and the South West of England, the Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel established his major railway workshop in Swindon; bringing the maintenance and repair of the GWR steam engines and rolling stock to the town as well as creating a major interchange station, the home of the first recorded railway station refreshment rooms. In 1960 the works manufactured the ‘Evening Star’, the last steam engine to be built in the UK. Today the restored railway works houses the Swindon Designer Outlet, a covered outlet centre with around 100 stores, in easy travelling distance of Bristol, Bath and the Cotswolds.
Inside the restored Victorian building modern day discounts of up to 60% are available on a wide range of top brands at the Designer Outlet in Swindon. Great fashion brands for men and women include Superdry, Kurt Geiger, Jigsaw and Hugo Boss; with great deal on the latest in modern footwear available from the likes of Crocs and Van. For jewellery, Ernest Jones ‘The Outlet Collection’ stocks some of the most beautiful diamonds brands Le Vian, Neil Lane and The Forever Diamond; whilst the Watch Station brings together watches from the fun to the collectable.
Swindon Designer Outlet also offers a good choice of places to relax and grab a coffee, a snack or a full meal including Soho Coffee Company, Patisserie Valerie and Pizza Express; with a restored railway engine, originally built and maintained in these railway buildings, as the centrepiece of the outlet centre.
